The U.S. coronavirus cases took off on March 11 and peaked a month later on April 11. It flattened the curve over the next few weeks but still surpassed 1 million cases on April 30. The U.S. is the most infectious country in the world, but mainly due to its larger population of 331 million people. The U.S. at 5120 cases per million surpassed Spain (5110), Ireland (5038), and Belgium (5010) today. Several other smaller nations also have higher rates: Qatar (18364), Luxembourg (6409), Singapore (5788), Iceland (5289) that do not readily make the news.

New cases are averaging 21000 per day over the last week, down twenty-two percent (22%) to the first week of May (27068). This decline, while the U.S. cautiously opens businesses in less infected states, is very promising.
