The world’s total cases-to-date surpassed the five million mark on May 23, and deaths 300,000 on May 16. It took over three months to reach the first million cases, then thirteen days to reach the second. The world COVID-19 infections have been growing at one million every twelve days ever since, so at that rate, we could double cases to ten million in total by July 22.
We had ‘flattened the curve’ between March 28 and the end of April as most countries implemented movement restrictions for all but essential workers (healthcare and safety). Countries are cautiously opening more businesses and allowing more activities. New infections have grown from 83,000 per day during the first week of May to 102,500 daily over that last five days worldwide.
